As many as 16 school children were today injured, including two critically, in a stampede at an indoor amusement park in east China's Jiangsu Province.
The condition of all the injured - first and second grade students from Nanjing Yuhua Experimental Primary School - is said to be stable, according to local authorities.
The stampede in Nanjing City, capital of Jiangsu, took place around 10 am local time at Happy World at Hongyang Plaza after the students were lining up to ride the escalator during an autumn outing, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Of the 16 injured, two suffered serious injuries and are being treated in SICU (surgical intensive care unit) at the Nanjing Children's Hospital, authorities said on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.
Wang Jing, a doctor at the hospital, said the injured students suffered bruises on their heads and faces. CT scan results showed major organs were undamaged in the stampede.
An investigation on the cause of the accident is still underway.
