According to police, in the incident which took place at a government school at around 11 A.M., the girl jumped from the third floor of the school building.
"It has emerged that the girl's father was called by her principal over some issue. She was apparently scared that school authorities will complain to him about her and so took the drastic step," said a police officer.
The girl, a Std XI student of Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya, Noor Nagar, has been admitted for treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
No FIR has been registered in the case but her teachers and parents are being questioned, police said.
"We also spoke to her classmates who said that she had been edgy since morning. As soon as she came to know that her father had reached school, she panicked, ran up to the third floor and jumped off," the officer added.
