All preparations for a free and fair election have been completed and over 10,000 men would be deployed to man 2009 polling stations across the constituency, using 2888 electronic voting machines.
There are six assembly constituencies namely Washim (SC), Karanja, Ralegaon (ST), Yavatmal, Digras and Pusad in the Washim-Yavatmal Lok Sabha constituency. Over 1,23,052 new voters will cast their votes this time.
Security arrangements are also being beefed up as 3508 police personnel and 2125 home guards would be deployed, District Collector and Chief Returning Officer Ashwin Mudgal said here today Wednesday at a press conference, immediately after the Election Commission of India declared the election schedule.
"Since the model code of conduct is in force from today, I have instructed officials to deposit their official vehicles and weapons as well as removal of hoardings from public places," Mudgal said.
