"17 jail officials were suspended after their names surfaced in various cases while departmental enquiries have been ordered against 58 others," Director General (Prisons) Vimlaa Mehra told reporters.
There is absolute zero tolerance when it comes to any kind of corruption and we are trying to maintain transparency in our work, she said.
Authorities also received 47 complaints of various kinds from the National Human Right Commission in 2013.
Mehra also said that seven mobile phones and a number of SIM cards were seized from inmates during the last one year while 18 cases, in which inmates attacked each other with blade, were also reported.
