The residents of Sector 47 had protested against the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) which was clearing the debris of the April 12 demolition drive in Fatehpur-Jharsa village in the same Sector yesterday, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said.
A police team accompanying HUDA officials resorted to lathicharge and tear gas to disperse the crowd, and arrested 19 persons including Ward 30 councillor Nisha Singh, he said.
Nine women, brought before the Judicial Magistrate Nidhi Solanki late last night, were sent to 14-day judicial custody, same as the nine men who were produced before Judicial Magistrate Vivek Chaudhary.
All the eighteen were charged under various sections of IPC, including attempt to murder and obstructing public servant from carrying out his duties, and under sections of Explosives Act.
Nisha Singh will be produced before the court on Monday as she has been admitted to the Civil Hospital with serious injuries, her lawyer Narender Kumar Jain said.
R S Rathi, president of Guraon Citizen's Council questioned the action of the police.
