A 19-year-old youth died after allegedly being electrocuted while working at a garment unit in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri area, police said today.
According to police, the victim, identified as Vikram, was working in the private enterprise located in the residential area of Kalyanpuri yesterday when the accident occurred.
The victim's cousin, who also works at the same unit, alleged that it was negligence on the part of the company that led to the death.
He told police that when Vikram went near a washing machine, he came in contact with a high-voltage wire and was electrocuted.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
On the basis of a complaint by the victim's family, a case of negligence has been registered against the owner of the unit.
"We have registered an FIR and have started an inquiry. The cause of death and allegations of negligence on part of the company are yet to be ascertained," a senior police officer said, adding that they were waiting for the post- mortem report.
Police are also trying to find out as to how a commercial unit was operating in a residential area.
