"A total of 194 people from Maharashtra, who were stranded at Kathmandu Airport, were brought back to Delhi today. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse are personally monitoring the rescue operation," an official from the Chief Minister's Office said here.
He said women, senior citizens and children are being given priority in the rescue operation. "For now, we have arranged for housing of 61 people in Maharashtra Sadan (State Government guest house in Delhi)."
"We have constituted four medical relief teams, each consisting of four doctors and three medical assistants. These will be sent to Delhi tomorrow morning and then the Ministry of External Affairs will facilitate their journey to Nepal," Meena told PTI.
The State Government has kept 10 more medical relief teams on standby. The Resident Commissioner of Maharashtra is co-ordinating with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to dispatch more medicines if required, he said.
The death toll in the temblor that shook Nepal on April 25 has soared to 4,000 amidst fears that it could touch 5,000.
Fadnavis (who is currently abroad) had yesterday said approximately 1,200 people from Maharashtra were stranded in Nepal.
