2.55 lakh quintals of pulses seized in raids in Karnataka

Karnataka government today said in the Assembly that it has conducted 1,351 raids on illegal hoardings and seized 2,55,458.28 quintals of pulses so far.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said 228 cases have been booked in this regard till November 15.
He said following steep rise in prices, central government had asked states to take action as per Essential Commodities Act 1955, following which it had issued an order fixing hoarding limit, and raids were conducted in accordance with it.
Rao claimed that the action taken by the government has helped common man, adding, last month there was about Rs 30 decline in prices. He was replying to a question raised by Sudhakar K (Cong) during question hour.
Highest number of 367 raids were conducted in Kalburgi and 111530.54 quintals of pulses were seized, followed by 116 raids in Bagalkote, where 10496.68 quintals were seized.
After Maharashtra, Karnataka is the second largest producer of pulses in the country.
