Two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors were suspended from the North Delhi civic body for 15 days for "misbehaviour" during a meeting of the BJP-controlled corporation's House here today, the mayor said.

The North MCD House meeting witnessed chaos today resulting in suspension of two AAP councilors by the mayor of BJP ruled civic body.

The Civic Centre premises, where the meeting of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) was held, saw protests by sanitation workers and domestic breeding checkers (DBCs) who are sitting on dharna over their various demands.

The doors of the Civic Centre were blocked by the demonstrators.

"Two AAP councillors, Ram Narayan and Ajay Sharma, have been suspended for 15 days for misbehaviour and tearing resolution paper for regularisation and payment of salaries and other dues of sanitation workers," said North Delhi Mayor Preety Agrwal who chaired the House meeting.

The Leader of Opposition in NDMC House, AAP councilor Rakesh Kumar, alleged that the action was a "conspiracy" by the BJP to shift focus from the issue of sanitation workers.

The chairman of the decision-making standing committee of NDMC, Tilak Raj Kataria, later said that the DBCs working with the corporation will be employed on annual basis.

"The DBCs under North DMC would be employed for whole year without four months break in service and they would be paid salary for entire year, which was their main demand," he said in a statement.
