Naved Chaudhary and Tanseer Ahmed were arrested and Rs 33 lakh was seized by police. The arrest came on a complaint filed by 25 people who alleged that the duo had cheated them in the name of running an NGO 'India Fire'.
During the course of enquiry, it came to notice that the said NGO had given an advertisement in newspapers offering agencies for distribution of wheat, flour and other household items.
The items were branded as 'Rahat Yogna brand' and it was claimed that these items would be available at much cheaper rates than the prevailing market rates.
Later, the investors came to know that the accused had shifted their activities and the promised supply of wheat, flour and other items to the agency holders also did not materialise, a senior police official said.
