Police have arrested two persons, who used to commit thefts inside Delhi Metro trains by cutting open bags of commuters using blades, and recovered Rs 1.50 lakh from them.
With the arrests, police claimed to have busted a gang of 'blademaar' thieves. The arrested duo -- Gazab and Chanderpal -- hail from Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district.
Police acted based on an FIR filed by a Gujarati businessman, who was robbed off Rs 1.50 lakh yesterday on board a Jahangirpuri-bound train on Yellow Line.
"He boarded the train from Chandni Chowk carrying a black colour raxine bag containing Rs 3 lakh. When he reached Jahangirpuri station, he noticed that there was a cut at the bottom of the bag and Rs 1.50 lakh was missing," a senior police officer said.
The arrests were made after scanning the CCTV footage of Chandni Chowk Station which helped in identifying the suspects. They were earlier arrested in 2013 and 2014 by police.
Based on a tip-off, a trap was laid at ISBT Kashmere Gate which led to the arrests. The third accused is absconding.
Police said that the arrested, who are allegedly related to each other, used to surround their targets in a running train before employing their blade-wielding techniques.
