Two alleged ATM fraudsters have been arrested for cheating around 100 people in different parts of north east Delhi by fraudulently withdrawing money from their accounts, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, Shahbuddin and Azhar were arrested from Khajoori Chowk yesterday, said Ajit Singla, DCP(north east).
According to police, the duo had cheated an old man at Dayalpur ATM booth after withdrawing Rs 20,000 from his account on November 5. A sum of Rs 12,000 of the cheated amount was recovered from them.
The duo mostly targeted elderly people and women. They used to secretely learn the passwords during transactions at ATM booths, Singla said.
In the last one year, they had cheated more than 100 persons. In most of the cases, the cheated amount varied between Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000. Due to the petty amount, most of the victims did not lodge complaints with the police, he added.
