According to a complaint lodged by the insurance company here yesterday, the two persons cheated the firm to the tune of over Rs 28 lakh, Inspector Balasaheb Tambe of Kasarwadavali Police Station said.
One Beduprasanna Kumar of Narsipatnam in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, had filed death claim of Rs 20.34 lakh with company's Thane office on his father's demise, he said.
Kumar allegedly forged the documents to prove that his father had died, even though he was alive and the claim amount was cleared by the company, Tambe said.
She had filed the claim on her son's death and got fake death certificate from Ambernath in January this year. On basis of the forged document, the claim was cleared, the police Inspector said.
On the company's complaint, an FIR has been lodged against the two persons under Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) rw 34 (common intention) of the IPC but no arrests have been made so far, Tambe added.
