Two alleged cattle smugglers were injured when BSF personnel fired at a group of miscreants who attacked them at Purkhasia near the Bangladesh border.
According to BSF sources the troops deployed at Kachhuadogri village launched a special operation near the Bangladesh border. They observed some cattle smugglers proceeding towards international border with huge number of cattle
When these were being rounded up by the forces, the BSF men were challenged by the criminals along with 30-40 villagers of Belapur under Purakhasia along the international border.
"Initially the villagers claimed the cattle belonged to them which we rebutted as they had already been marked for parties in Bangladesh. When we refused to listen to them, they got angry and started attacking us with daos (short sharp swords) and later pelted stones at us. We had to retaliate as some even tried snatching away our guns," said a BSF officer.
The under attack BSF jawans fired two shots at the group leading to two of the smugglers getting injured in the leg. The injured duo have been identified as Namseng Sangma (35) and Dipuesh Marak (29), who were arrested along with Thapa Marak (60) and Brenath Sangma (42), the officer said.
The injured persons were taken to Dalu PHC by BSF troops and were later moved to the Tura Civil Hospital for further medical care.
The BSF personnel handed over the four alleged cattle smugglers to the Dalu Police station.
