2 CISF men injured in stone-pelting at NTPC site in C'garh

Tension prevailed at the site of an under-construction plant of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district today as protesting workers clashed with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnels.
CISF fired six rounds in air to disperse the protesters. Two of its personnels sustained injuries in stone-pelting.
The incident took place this morning at the NTPC site at Lara village, said Pusaur police station house officer (SHO) Deepak Paswan.
Police teams were sent immediately and the situation was brought under control, he added.
NTPC's senior manager (human resources) Bhaskar Gupta said the members of NTPC Theka Mazdoor Sangh (contractual workers' union) who staged the protest outside the plant site tried to prevent other workers from going in.

On February 9, a labourer called Hemram Yadav was killed in an accident at the site. After talks with INTUC Mazdoor Sangh, the company provided a compensation of Rs 13 lakh to the victim's family, but the union of contractual workers complained why it was not involved in the talks, Gupta said.

The contractual workers union today held demonstration in front of the site demanding higher compensation for the family and tried to stop other labourers from going in, he claimed.
This led to a clash between the protesters and CISF personnels. Some protesters pelted stone while CISF opened fire in air to disperse them, Gupta said, adding that nobody from workers' side was injured.

Two CISF personnels sustained injuries while a vehicle also got damaged in the stone-pelting, he said. Injured personnels were admitted to local hospital and the situation at the plant site was under control, he added.
