: Madras High Court today granted an interim bail for a limited period of two days to one of the two accused involved in cheating a person of Rs 10 crore under the guise of getting him a sand quarry permit.
Justice S Vydyanathan granted two days interim bail to M Ganesan, whose daughter's betrothal and marriage is scheduled today and tomorrow.
The judge said from the facts it appeared a big fraud had taken place where the two persons had cheated the complainant, who paid them a huge amount. It was also true that a regular bail application has to be moved before the court concerned.
Considering the facts that the betrothal and marriage of Ganesan's daughter was scheduled to be solemnized today and tomorrow and that his presence was required as he was the father, the judge said he felt it appropriate to grant interim bail to him from today to 1200 hrs tomorrow.
Central Crime Branch contended that Ganesan's wife had been arrayed as accused no:1 and their son as accused no 3.
The prosecution's case was the trio cheated a man into parting with Rs 10.15 crore, making him believe they have obtained permit of sand mining. They did not do so, nor did they return the money.
On a complaint by the man,the father and son were arrested following which they moved a lower court for bail, without approaching the High Court, citing the betrothal and marriage today and tomorrow.
