Two persons died after allegedly consuming illicit liquor in New Agra area near Karbala today, police said.
The deceased identified as Arjun and Rakesh, both in their 40s and residents of a basti near Sultan Ganj area, were found lying unconscious near a country liquor shop. They had allegedly consumed illicit "tincture-ginger", they said.
The two were sent to SN Medical College emergency ward where doctors declared them brought dead, New Agra police said.
Infuriated family members of the deceased tried to block traffic for a while on main Bypass road but were pacified by senior officials from Hari Parbat police station.
The families alleged the shops in the area were selling illicit "tincture-ginger" due to which many had fallen sick in the past but police said the shops had licences.
