2 duck breeding farms to be set up in U'khand

Two duck breeding farms will be set up in Uttarakhand with an aim to produce 30,000 ducklings every year which will be distributed among farmers, the state government said today.
One duck breeding farm each will be established at Goolarbhoj in Udhamsinghnagar district and the other at Landhora in Haridwar district, Chief Secretary Shatrughna Singh said.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the state committee of the National Livestock Mission.
The two duck breeding farms which will have 115 ducks each will together give birth to 30,000 ducklings every year which will be distributed among farmers.
A decision to further develop the Sheep farm at Pipalkoti in Chamoli district and the goat farm at Dunda in Uttarkashi was also taken at the meeting, an official release said.
There is also a plan under the national livestock mission to establish 22 mother poultry units and provide 1,500 birds to each of these units, it said.
A proposal for providing animal insurance cover in all districts has also been submitted to the mission. 200 broiler rabbit units will also come up at Dehradun, Haridwar, Udhamsingh Nagar, Nainital, Pauri and Champawat districts.
Projects worth Rs 16.30 crore were cleared at the meeting for which the Centre will bear 90 per cent of the expenses and the state government 10 per cent.
