Timely intervention by a Good Samaritan and the staff of a Delhi Police PCR van not just rescued two minor girls who had drifted away from their parents but also helped them meet their aunt to whom they were handed over.
The incident took place on January 3 when one Anil Kumar Lal, an employee with EKAL Foundation of India, was home at about 6.30 pm when he saw the two girls wandering on the road near Govind Puri Metro Station.
Lal realised these girls have drifted away from their mother and he feared for their safety. He took them to the metro station and after consultation with the traffic police on duty called Police Control Room, police said.
The Police Control Room directed a PCR Van which was on patrol nearby. The PCR staff comprising Head Constable Pakheru Lal, gunman constable Sudhir and driver constable Sonu immediately rushed to the spot.
"The PCR staff saw two girls namely Kalpana (4) and Sithal (2) along with Lal. The PCR staff made inquiries on the spot about the mother of the girls but nobody came forward with any information.
"The staff, after prolonged inquiries, succeeded in locating the aunt of the children Anita, aged about 20 years. The minor girls were handed over to Anita after completing the formalities. In the meantime, one of the PCR staff members had arranged sweets for the girls," said Special Commissioner (Operations) T N Mohan.
But for the police intervention and the services of Anil Kumar Lal, something untoward could have happened to the children, Mohan said.
