The two Goa Transport Department officers, who were arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000 to clear the trucks loaded with sponge iron, are likely to be suspended soon, a senior official said.
Assistant Director of Transport Uday Gawas and Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector Waman Umraskar were arrested two days back by Vigilance Department's Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) while accepting the bribe from a transport contractor.
"We have received a report from the Vigilance Department about the action and their alleged involvement in accepting the money," State Transport Director Arun Desai told PTI today.
He said that the report has been forwarded to the state government for its nod for suspension of the duo.
Desai said that since one of them is a gazetted officer, government's approval is necessary for suspension.
The transport contractor had approached the ACB with the complaint.
Desai said with the Digital India initiative, most of the taxations have gone online, reducing the possibility of corruption, but on road enforcement still remains a grey area for the department.
