According to an official statement released today, two persons were apprehended by the police and an FIR has been lodged.
Both the accused persons have been booked under CrPC by the police. Prosecutions will be launched under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, after further investigations, it said.
Information was received on Monday that the drug is being stocked and supplied illegally at Ghazipur Dairy in Delhi.
During the raid, large quantities of oxytocin injection in plastic bottles and other veterinary drugs were seized from their premises.
Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, oxytocin is a Schedule-H drug and is required to be supplied on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner only. The formulation of oxytocin injection is required to be packed in single unit blister packet to avoid its misuse.
In spite of several provisions, the drug in the form of injection (crude concoction) continues to be sold in a clandestine way by anti-social elements to dairy owners.
