Two persons allegedly involved in abduction of a 12-year-old boy from Dombivili five years ago and were absconding since then have been arrested, police said here today.
Acting on a tip-off, Bushan Bhanudas Karale alias Mushya and Bushan Valku Mongal, both 25-year-old, were arrested yesterday for allegedly kidnapping the boy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Parag Manere said.
"In 2010, the boy was kidnapped from Dombivili while on his way to school. The abductors had demanded Rs 15 lakh ransom," he said.
"On the kidnappers' direction the boy's father reached a jungle in Nandene village of Murbad to pay the ransom as police laid a trap to nab them," Manere said.
The kidnappers released the boy after his father paid the ransom. The police however failed to arrest them as they managed to flee abandoning the cash, the DySP said.
A police team led by Senior Inspector Sanjay Sable traced the duo in Badlapur and arrested them. They were produced before a local court here and were remanded in police custody till December 30, police said.
