Two persons, including a 10-year-old girl, died and five others suffered critical injuries after a massive fire broke out in a shopping mall in Pakistan's Punjab province on Wednesday, officials said.
Dozens of shops, apartments and vehicles were also gutted in the blaze, which erupted at the 12-storey Alina Shopping Mall in Gujrat city, some 125 km from Lahore.
Over 100 firefighters battled for nearly 12 hours before the fire was brought under control.
According to the rescue team, the woman and 10-year-old girl died after being trapped in an apartment, which was part of the shopping complex.
Over 100 people, mostly women and children, have been rescued, they said.
Eight floors of the building were destroyed in the fire, the cause of which is yet to be known.
In 2013, seventeen children and a teacher were killed when their school bus caught fire in Gujrat. Seven other children were injured in the blaze which destroyed the vehicle.
