Two Sri Lankan refugees were deported from Dubai for travelling on forged passports and arrested on their arrival here, police said.
Sasidharan of Tiruchirapalli and Bhageerathan were staying in a private room in Chennai. The two had gone to Dubai through a private agent on November 19.
Immigration officials in Dubai found that their passports bore Sri Lankan addresses and were also forged, police said.
Based on their addresses, they were deported to Sri Lanka, where Immigration officials noticed that they were residents of Chennai.
The two were then sent to Coimbatore by a Sri Lankan Airlines flight last evening after informing the local authorities.
On landing here, airport officials nabbed them and handed them over to police, who registered cases under the Passport Act and produced them in court.
The duo was remanded to custody and lodged in the Central Jail here, police said.
Since all Sri Lankan refugees are lodged in the Puzhal jail in Chennai, permission of the District Collector is being sought to send them there, they said.
