2 Maoists arrested in Jharkhand

Two rebels belonging to CPI (Maoist), including one accused in torching a truck and setting its driver on fire, were arrested during an anti-naxal campaign on Friday, police said.

The anti-naxal operation was launched Thursday night and the security personnel arrested the Maoists - Ajay Lohra alias Jadorai alias Dolka alias Soma Nag and Sukhram Munda alias Taerchu in the early hours Friday, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Khunti, Ashiwini Kumar Sinha, said.

Based on an information that Maoists led by Bachchan Munda were moving around in the Saiko and Kurapurti jungles, a police team, headed by the Superintendent of Police (Operations) Anurag Raj, was formed to apprehend them, he said.

During search operation the security personnel came across two suspected persons near Adaldih village, surrounded the area and arrested them, he said, adding, two country-made pistols and live cartridges were recovered from their possession, the SP said.

During the interrogation, Lohra confessed that he had torched a truck and set its driver on fire in Aara Ghati on August 3 under the jurisdiction Saiko police station, the SP added.
