Two suspected members of an inter-state narcotic cartel were arrested and drugs worth more than Rs 20 crore were seized from one of them, the police said today.
The Special Cell sleuths had received an information about one Vinay Jain (46) of Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, procuring contraband from Manipur and transporting it to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab with the help of truck drivers, they said.
Jain used the help of the truck drivers to transport drugs since he thought that the trucks are not thoroughly checked, the police said.
On September 22, the police learnt about one Sukhwinder Singh (58), a suspected member of the drug cartel and a truck driver, was coming here with a huge consignment.
"It was learnt that Singh would be coming near Azadpur Sabzi Mandi with a huge consignment of contraband," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
The consignment was to be delivered to a buyer near Fruit Mandi, Azadpur. The driver was arrested and his truck was searched, he said.

The police seized four kilograms of heroin and 10 kilograms of opium worth more than Rs 20 crore from a secret cavity in the truck driver's cabin, the police said.
During interrogation, Singh revealed about Jain being the kingpin of the cartel.
Jain was held yesterday from near his house in Ratlam. The police recovered cell phones with four SIM cards used by him to manage and operate the syndicate, the DCP said.
Singh told police that as per the directions of Jain, he used to procure narcotic drugs, including heroin and opium, from Manipur and hid them in a secret cavity of his truck.
He then delivered the drugs to various states. He used to receive Rs one lakh per trip as his share, Yadav said.
