Two men were arrested for allegedly planning to kill a woman, who was a witness in the murder case of her brother, police said today.
The accused, Rovin alias Mohan and Kartik alias Lokesh Kalyan, were arrested in Rohini yesterday by a team of Delhi Polices Special Cell, said P S Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell). Two .315 bore pistols and four live cartridges were recovered from their possession, he added.
In the last few months, incidents of firing between rival gang members and at witnesses have been reported from near Rohini Court and its premises. Following such incidents, a team was formed to identify and trace the accused, said Kushwah.
In 2008, Munna Singh was killed by Robin Sharma. The accused was making advances towards a family friend of Singh and when Singh resented it, he was allegedly killed by Sharma, the police said. The woman's brother Chintan was a witness in the murder of Munna Singh and was killed.
Yesterday, Sharma, who is lodged in jail, was to be produced in Rohini Court for a hearing in the Chintan murder case.
The Special Cell sleuths learnt that the gangster was planning to killed Chintans sister since she is a witness in the case. Since the proceedings could not take place yesterday, the two accused planned to kill her while she was on her way back home, the police said.
The duo were arrested from near the court, they said.
