"Sub-inspector Nasir Abbas was going to his home in Korangi last night when three men stopped him and tried to rob him but when he resisted they shot him and he later died in a hospital," Khan Muhammad Sheikh, the station officer of Korangi police station, told PTI.
He said on hearing the gunshots a mob managed to catch two of the three robbers who were on a motorcycle.
"The mob then beat and lynched the two before the police got there. They also wanted to burn the bodies but we retrieved the bodies and took them to the hospital," he said.
Frustrated by the failure of law enforcement agencies to put an end to street crimes in Pakistan's biggest city, citizens have in recent times resorted to lynching when they manage to catch any criminals.
