Two Muslim sisters in Madhya Pradesh, who returned to their parents' home here after being threatened with triple talaq by their husbands, have expressed happiness over the new law which criminalises the practice of instant divorce.

The sisters, Sajia and Sabiha, alleged that after the marriage around four years back, their husbands started ill- treating them and also threatened to give triple talaq, which prompted them to return to their parents' home last year.

But the new law has given hope to the sisters as say they that it has removed the fear of talaq from their minds and now they plan to return to their husbands' homes.

While Sajia's husband and in-laws live in Barwani, Sabiha's live in Indore.

"Our husbands threatened that they will give triple talaq to us. Therefore, we came back to our parents' house nearly a year ago along with our children," the sisters told PTI on Friday.

"Since then, we had been waiting for the law that criminalises the practice of triple talaq. Now, the fear of getting talaq does not bother us any more," they said.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the law, they said, "Now we can take our husbands to court if they give us triple talaq."
