2 police stations in C'garh's Naxal belt get ISO certification

Two police stations in Chhattisgarh's Naxal-affected Bijapur district have received ISO 9001:2015 certification for achieving stipulated parameters in policing, a senior official said Sunday.

Madded and Bhopalpatnam police stations in Bijapur have got Quality Management System ISO 9001:2015 certificate for prevention and detection of crime, maintaining law and order and establishing peace and tranquillity, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI.

The certification is given by Geneva-based International Standards Organisation (ISO) on the basis of various parameters, he said.

It was received on August 27 and handed over to police station officials on September 7 by Bijapur MLA and state Forest Minister Mahesh Gagda, the SP said.

The certificates are valid till August 20, 2021, he added.

"For the first time in the country, police stations from Maoist-hit areas have bagged ISO certificates," Garg claimed.

He said that the task to transform these two police stations, situated on National Highway 63 passing through a dense insurgency-affected forest corridor, started after he took over as SP in February this year.

"Police personnel were briefed about working in a certain manner to improve the functioning of key areas which constituted the focus of ISO," Garg explained.

By July, formalities required for the certification were completed after which the ISO inspection team was invited, he added.

"A team of Swiss Cert Pvt Ltd, authorised by ISO, visited the police stations in July and August this year and conducted an audit of their functioning," Garg said.

Informing about the facilities in the two police stations, the SP said, "These police stations have rooms for women complainants and victims, entertainment rooms for kids if they come along with victims and a guest room. Separate restrooms and toilets have been built for men and women personnel," he said.

"Moreover, kitchen and drinking water facilities were provided and stock room, radio room and computer room were upgraded," he added.

The official said that in Madded police station, an open gym and a garden for kids were developed.

He said that other police stations would also be upgraded similarly.
