2 prisoners escape from police custody

Two prisoners escaped from police custody when they were put up at two different hotels here for being questioned in connection with different criminal cases registred against them.
Veeramani, a native of Rasipuram, is accused of having committed many thefts in Andaman and Nicobar islands and had sold some of the valuables here, police said.
Inspector Sanjay Kumar, who brought him here from Andaman and Nicobar islands, was staying with him in a lodge for taking him around the places where he had sold the jewelleries. He escaped from custody early this morning, police said.
George, alias Joshi, a wanted man from Kerala, was lodged in another hotel, police said.

George was involved in several sexual abuse and other criminal cases, police said. He was escorted by Kerala Police personnel as he had sold some of the jewelleries here. He managed to escape when the police escort team were fast asleep last night.
A case has been registered, police said.
