2 STF squads to be set up to control crime, drug abuse: Har

The Haryana police will set up two special task force squads to control crime and drug abuse in areas bordering Punjab and those falling in the NCR region of the state, DGP B S Sandhu said today.
Comprising two SP-level officers, these squads will work under the supervision of the Inspector General of Police.
A Cyber Police Station will be set up in Panchkula to effectively check cyber crime, he said.
Noose will be tightened around those indulging in drug abuse and overloading of vehicles the DGP said, adding steps will be taken to ensure compliance with traffic rules.
Motorbikes making cracker-type sound on roads will be impounded, Sandhu said.
He said Operation Durga, launched in the state to ensure safety of women, has brought encouraging results. The number of snatching, eve-teasing and other minor crime cases has decreased and all such cases will be reviewed tomorrow.

Modern weapons and equipment will be provided to police personnel and efforts are being made to modernise the control rooms, the DGP said.
He said a draft has been prepared for necessary amendment to the rules for using more than one beacon of different colours on police vehicles and the matter will be discussed with the authorities concerned.
A 'Mitra Kaksh' (Friends Room) will be set up outside every police station to develop friendly relations between the people and the police. Services such as issuing character certificate and passport verification will here, he said.
