2 sweets shops challaned for 'ignoring' food safety

Chandigarh authorities today issued challans to two sweets shops during an inspection drive in the district to check hygiene and food quality in eateries.
"The raids were conducted to check the quality of food items in view of ongoing monsoon season," Sub-divisional magistrate (East) UT Chandigarh Danish Ashraf said.
During the raid, the challans were issued to two sweet shops -Aggarwal Sweets and Mahadev Sweets, both located at Daria village, an official release said.
Aggarwal Sweets shop was running without a proper food license while premises of Mahadev Sweets was found unhygienic, the release said, adding samples of sweets were also taken for testing.
A team comprising Food Safety Officers inspected the premises of nine restaurants and sweet shops situated at Madhya Marg Sector-26 and Daria village for checking the compliance of the Food Safety & Standards Act and Rules, 2006, it said.
