Two persons, who were fishing in Jawahar Sagar Dam at Naavghat in Kota, were swept away in a sudden gush of water released from the dam, police said today.
The bodies of the two are yet to be recovered. The rescue operation by police and RAC personnel was started soon after the incident and is still underway, police said.
The two locals, identified as Udda Bheel (50) and Shankar (13), were engaged in fishing activities at Naavghat yesterday when they were swept away due to sudden current of water released from the dam turbines, said Madan Lal Khateek, Station House Officer (SHO) at Dabi police station.
The water level at Jawahar Sagar dam has been very high due to heavy inflow of water and the gates could not be closed due to increasing water level, the SHO further said.
The rescue operation by the police and RAC personnel from Kota is still going on even as the water current and inflow in the dam area is very heavy, he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident under the Dabi police station area, a five-year-old boy drowned into a well in front of his home in Suthda village after he allegedly slipped while taking bath yesterday.
Victim Prince suddenly lost balance and fell into the well as he was taking bath on the well's platform, police said.
Police recovered the body from the well with the help of locals and handed it over to the family members after post-mortem at Dabi community health centre, they added.
