The certificates kept in safe packings in a store room of the Public Health department were found missing on May 6. A police case has been registered in this connection, a senior North Delhi Municipal Corporation official today said.
The disappearance of 20,000 blank certificates which are believed to be stolen pose a major misuse threat through forgery which could be used in criminal and anti-national activities, the official said.
The civic body has already issued a public notice giving serial numbers of these stolen blank certificates, in newspapers to caution all about the missing blank certificates and their potential misuse, he said.
The forged birth and death certificates may be used as 'identification papers' and other documents for application in various departments like passport, revenue, education, elctoral or banking.
All these offices have been informed to verify birth and death certificates carefully by tallying with the serial numbers of the missing blank certificates.
The footage of CCTV camera installed at the office have also been provided to police, the official said.
