20 kg of sandalwood seized, 3 arrested

: Three sandalwood smugglers were arrested and 20 kg of sandalwood seized from their vehicle at a checkpost near Bhavanisagar,about 80 km from here, police said.
The logs were seized during a check of vehicles yesterday to prevent smuggling of forest produce, a forest department release said.
While the three were arrested, another person in the vehicle escaped and efforts were on to nab him, they said
The trio on being questioned, admitted that they had a cut a sandalwood tree in Vilamundy forest area for being smuggled out
They also said they had already cut two more such trees in the Revenue Inspector quarters and another area.

The officials said efforts were on to ascertain the exact value of the seized logs.
