The workers were preparing to take out the campaign from Gandhipuram area in the city, police took them into custody, saying they had not taken permission for it.
The VCK urban district secretary, Ilakkiyan, who led the campaign, being Gandhi Jayanthi Day, was among those taken into custody, they said.
