Poonam alias Pooja, a resident of Palam village but originally from Bihar's Bhagalpur district, was arrested following a complaint by the pilot, a senior police official said.
According to police, the complainant had asked the guard of his society to send a maid. On Sunday last, two maids came to his house. While one of them worked with his wife in kitchen, the other started cleaning the floor.
After both of them left, the pilot entered his room to find that the lock of a wooden almirah in a room was broken. He asked the guards of his society to immediately stop the woman. The guard succeeded in stopping one maid while the other managed to flee.
During a search, police recovered the stolen jewellery from her possession.
"During interrogation, she said her parents died at an early age and being elder of the family she was looking after her brothers and sisters and was under heavy debt. For this she committed the crime," said Anil Kumar Ojha, ACP South West district.
