In order to boost the security arrangements and keep vigil on cleanliness at Howrah and Sealdah stations, Eastern Railway (ER) is planning to install 200 more CCTV cameras in and around the station areas shortly, a senior official said here today.
"Two hundred CCTVs will soon be installed at Howrah and Sealdah stations in order to monitor and enhance the security system there as well as monitoring the cleanliness," ER General Manager R K Gupta said during an interaction organised by the MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.
"It's a part of the integrated security system and the tender documents in this connection will be issued next week, he said.
The cameras would be installed in and around the stations to monitor the station areas (both inside and outside the station), all platforms, passengers boarding and disembarking the trains and their luggages, he said.
"The cameras will also be used to monitor the cleanliness of areas in and around the stations... We will keep an eye on whether railway staff are working or sitting idle," Gupta said adding ER was mulling to impose fine on passengers littering the stations and adjoining areas.
Keeping in mind the premium class travellers, ER was also planning to introduce business class lounges at Howrah and Sealdah stations, Gupta said.
"Officials have already visited the site for this and something will soon be done. A passenger who is changing trains, will be able to avail this facility at reasonable rates," he added.
