India today provided scholarships to 200 Nepalese students as part of its effort to support human resources development and the overall socio-economic development of the country.
The scholarship scheme was started by the Government of India in 2002 for meritorious Nepalese students marking the completion of 50 years of India-Nepal Economic Cooperation.
So far more than 2,150 Nepali students have been benefited from this scholarship scheme from across 77 districts of Nepal.
The scholarship scheme enables selected Nepalese students to continue studying MBBS, BE, BSc, BA, B.Ed, BBA and under-graduate courses at various universities and colleges in Nepal by providing financial assistance.
Under this scholarship scheme, an MBBS student receives Rs 4,000 per month for five years while a BE student is provided Rs 4,000 per month for four years and a student studying in other under-graduate courses receives Rs 3,000 per month for three years.
Shanker Das Bairagi, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal and India's Ambassador for Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri, congratulated the eligible students for their selection for the scholarship.
They advised the students to achieve personal and professional fulfilment, which will contribute to further deepening and strengthening India-Nepal relations.
