A special MCOCA court today granted bail to an accused arrested in connection with the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case.
Imran Ahmed Katib is the eighth accused who has been granted bail in the case.
There are in all 22 accused in the case, including a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative and key plotter of 26/11 terror strikes Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal.
According to ATS, Katib was one of the conspirators and was in contact with Fayyaz Kagzi, an absconding accused in the case. Katib had been arrested from Beed in Maharashtra in 2006.
On May 8, 2006, a Maharashtra ATS team had chased a Tata Sumo and an Indica car on Chandwad-Manmad highway near Aurangabad and arrested three terror suspects and seized 30 kg RDX, 10 AK-47 assault rifles and 3,200 bullets.
The Indica was allegedly driven by Jundal who managed to give police the slip. Hailing from Beed district, Jundal then allegedly drove to Malegaon and handed over the vehicle to an acquaintance.
In the same month (May 2006), he escaped to Bangladesh from where he fled to Pakistan on a fake passport obtained with the help of an LeT operative, according to the crime branch.
On August 17, the special MCOCA court had framed charges against the 22 arrested accused.
