21 new tourist spots to be developed in Uttarakhand

In a bid to give fresh boost to tourism in Uttarakhand, the state government has identified 21 lesser known places endowed with natural beauty to develop them into major tourist destinations.
This is part of the state government's ongoing efforts to add some more places to the existing list of major tourist destinations in Uttarakhand like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Nainital and the famous char dhaams, Additional Secretary Tourism Amit Negi said here today.
Among the places identified for the purpose are Baijnath, Jageshwar, Saat Taal, Bhimtal, Chakori, Patal Bhuvaneshwar, Pithoragarh, Someshwar, Roopkund, Chakrata, Anson Barrage, Hanaul, Dhanaulti, Harshil and Dayara meadow, he said adding it will substantially increase tourist traffic in the state.
Besides, places like Tons in Garhwal division and Jauljiwi in Kumaon will be developed as adventure tourism destinations, Negi said.
Apart from developing these picturesque places as tourist spots, a campaign will be launched to publicise their distinctive features, he added.
