22 states propose removing 'no-detention policy' in schools

22 states including Haryana have have proposed to the Centre on removing the 'no-detention policy' in schools, Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said today.
He said the state government has sent a proposal to the Centre for conducting Board examinations for classes V and VIII in Haryana, according to an official statement released here.

Sharma was speaking at the meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) which had met to discuss issues related to re-engaging out of school children.

The meeting was presided over by Minister of State for Human Resource Development Upendra Kushwaha.
Sharma said that such meetings should be conducted at those places where the drop-out rate is high and the poverty is the main reason for dropping-out, according to the statement.
Other members of the Sub-Committee, who belonged to different states, also offered their suggestions.
In the meeting, Sharma also said that a clean and favourable environment should be provided in schools and education oficers should adopt a village each. He suggested that 'Model Sanskriti Vidyalaya' and 'Aarohi Schools' should be established, the statement said.
