As many as 225 recruits of the 98 course of The Brigade of The Guards attained status of combat soldiers at the passing-out-parade here.
A colourful ceremonial parade was presented by the young guardsmen, who are the newest addition to the Armed Forces fraternity.
As they took the symbolic last step in slow march to the famous Auld Lang Syne tune of the band, the recruits formally attained the status of combat soldiers, ready for front line duties.
The Brigade of The Guards was conceived on the lines of the British Cold Stream Guards by late Field Marshal K M Cariappa, OBE.
Post Independence, this was the first regiment to be raised on an 'all India all class composition'.
The regiment was formed by selecting the four oldest battalions of the Indian Army.
Major General Surinder Singh, AVSM, VSM, Director General Operation Logistic, Headquarters South Western Command, reviewed the parade yesterday at GRC, Kamptee, near here, a defence press release said.
