Acting on a complaint by some people, police teams carried out simultaneous raids at the residences of Mukhiya Ranju Devi, Dakpal Umashankar Singh and Mukhiya's associates Ganesh Yadav and Anup Sah and seized the passbooks and job cards, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganesh Kumar said.
The Dakpal, posted at Shankar Saraiya post office, was detained and questioned in connection with recovery of the IAY and MNREGA passbooks and job cards from non-beneficiaries, he said, adding that the former's role in irregularities in implementation of the central schemes was under investigation.
An FIR has been lodged by the Tripolia Block Programme Officer Raghunath Kumar against the mukhiya, her husband Jaiprakash Chaudhary, Rojgar Sevak Manoj Kumar Chaurasia and Panchayat Sevak Satyendra Prasad at Tripolia police station in connection with seizure of the IAY and MNREGA passbooks and job cards, the SP said.
The Dakpal too could be booked if he was found to be involved in irregularities in the IAY and MNREGA schemes, he said.
The local people had complained to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during his seva yatra to the district recently about irregularities in implementation of the central flagship programmes IAY and MNREGA in East Champaran district.
Kumar had directed the district officials to look into the matter. PTI CORR KDK
