229 Delhi police officials face 3 or more complaints: Govt

There are 229 Delhi Police officials against whom at least three complaints alleging involvement in extortion, corruption, harassment, misuse of power and others have been received in the last two years, government said today.
"Delhi Police has reported that three or more complaints have been received against 229 Delhi Police officials during the last two years, and the current year (up to February 15) alleging misuse of power, misbehaviour, corruption, threat, inaction, beating, extortion of money, harassment, inaction against unauthorised construction, etc," Minister of State for Home Affairs, Haribhai Chaudhary said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.
The starred question also sought details of those Assistant Commissioners of Police who have been given promotions despite facing serious allegations, the reasons associated therewith and the action taken to correct that position.
In the reply, the Minister said, "Promotions are made strictly in accordance with instructions issued by Department of Personnel and Training from time to time."
"As per the extant provision, promotion can be withheld only when the officer is under suspension or charge sheet has been issued against him in departmental inquiry or criminal case. The relevant guidelines are followed while deciding promotion," he added.
