"The joint team during a special operation late last night observed some people throwing packets from the other side of the border," BSF Deputy Inspector General of Punjab Frontier R S Kataria said.
When challenged, they attacked the jawans, who fired in self-defence. The smugglers then fled the spot, he said.
The jawans searched the place and seized 23 packets of heroin, each containing one kg of the drug, valuing Rs 115 crore in international market and a mobile phone with Pakistani SIM card was recovered form there, the Deputy IG said.
