230 cartons of liquor seized from godown in Ghaziabad; 2 held

Two persons were arrested and 230 cartons of country made foreign liquor (CMFL), which was allegedly being smuggled for supply ahead of Panchayat elections, was seized from a godown in a raid conducted by District police and Excise department here.
On a tip-off, the joint raid was conducted at the godown in Pandav Nagar industrial area on the intervening night of September 28 and 29, Kavi Nagar SHO Ashok Shishodia said.
230 cartons of liquor stashed in four vehicles were seized by the joint teams and two bootleggers, Sonu and Balram, were arrested, he said.
The duo confessed that the liquor was smuggled from Haryana as the demand for alcohol touches its peak during dry days in elections, police said, adding, a scooty used for ferrying liquor has also been seized.
In another incident, during night patrolling Link Road police stopped a car for checking and recovered 10 cartons of liquor smuggled from Haryana and arrested the car owner Sanjay Pal, a resident of Arthala village in Sahibabad, said SHO Upendra Yadav.
In a third such incident, Modi Nagar SHO Deepak Sharma said that during routine check police intercepted a Ritz car for checking and recovered 10 cartoons of CMFL ferried from Haryana.
The car owner, identified as Mohit Tyagi, fled from the spot, he said.
