More than 28 million yuan (USD 4.2 million) was confiscated or frozen in cases involving overseas gambling websites, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said today.
Police authorities have intensified investigations into suspected web gambling since April.
Since June 14, police have busted several rings that organised gambling activities in cities including Shenyang in Liaoning Province and Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
According to the MPS, cracking down on cross-border web gambling has become a regular task for the police as international gambling companies have used overseas gambling websites to develop Chinese agents and attract gamblers in recent years.
