24 gamblers arrested, over one lakh seized

More than 20 gamblers were arrested and over one lakh cash was seized from their possession in two separate raids conducted at Morang Mandi and Yashoda Nagar areas here, police said today.
Acting on a tip off, two separate teams from Naubasta police station conducted raids yesterday recovering cash worth Rs 1,21,000 and arrested 24 gamblers on the spot, Kanpur SSP K Immanuel said.
Of the two raids, 14 people were arrested from Morang Mandi area with police seizing cash worth Rs one lakh eight thousand from the traders, he added.
In another raid conducted at Yashoda Nagar area, 10 people were nabbed from a building and Rs 13,000 recovered from their possession.

The accused are being investigated, he said adding that similar raids will be conducted in the city ahead of Diwali and few days following the festival.
